私の２８回目のル・マンは終わりました。
３人のドライバーが１スティントづつこなし、２スティント目に入って私の乗る前のロビンのドライブ中に突如オーバーヒートに襲われ、５６周でエンジントラブルによりリタイヤとなりました。

スタートは山岸から始まり、ロビン、私の順番。

パドルシフトが効かないので、マニュアルシフトに切り替えての走行でした。途中、突如の雨にも襲われながらも、順調に走行していたのですが残念ながらエンジントラブル。

これから、また来年に向けての１からのスタートの始まりです。

サンジュリアン教会下の駐車場を出発地点として市内の目抜き通り約２キロをクラシックカーに乗ってパレードが行われる。

パレードはドライバーだけでなくブラスバンドやサンバダンサー達の強烈なアピールもあり、華々しい雰囲気だ。毎年、観客から「テラダ！」「ヨジロー」と声をかけられる。嬉しい限りだ。

帰って来たんだなと感慨深くなる一瞬だ。

これだけ沢山の人からの声援を受ける事はドライバー冥利につきる。

We start from a parking lot by the church of San Julian and go on a parade through the city’s main street.

The parade includes not only all race drivers on historic cars but everything from brass bands to Brazilian samba dancers and it is truely a spectacular event. Every year, the crowd goes wild as I pass in front of them, yelling my name on top of their lung. It makes me happy and I feel finally at home.

It is always the most honorable moment as a driver and makes me very proud to be here.

悪天候の中、様々なトラブルを抱えながらの予選だったが、瞬間的なドライタイヤの時に運悪く走れず、結果は以下のとうり、日曜日の午後３時を目指して頑張ります。

電気系統とパドルシフトが不調

チームオーナーはドライバーのクオリファイを得る事に全力をつくしている。

ポジション的には見るべくもないが、そんなことはこの際気にしない。

今年は完走する事がこのチームにとって最高の名誉だろう。

We are still having problems with the electronics and the paddle shifter.
The owner of the team as well as the rest of the team members are doing the best to get all 3 drivers qualified.
Our record time is not looking very well but that doe not bother me. Successfully completing the race in one piece is all that matters and the whole team should be very pround when we do. Today’s press release includes a list of the number of consecutive races each driver participated.

１９：００スタート予定が雨で３０分遅れ、７：４０頃になりまたかなり強いどしゃ降りになり、ほとんどの車が帰って来てピットにいる。

屋根のあるGTカーはスピンしないように気をつけてゆっくり走っている車もいる。プロトタイプでも唯一屋根ありのプジョー車はゆっくり余裕の走行。

観客も民族大移動、、、、みんなピットでひたすら車体の調整、ドライバーも空を見上げている。

気温が下がりドライバーの体力の消耗、休息にはなっているようだが、みんな空を見上げてゆっくりと走っている車をモニターで眺めている。

我が、２９番はロビンがゆっくりとコースに出て行った。

モニターにうつされているが、かなりの水しぶきをあげて注意深く走っている様子。

安全に帰って来て欲しい。

まだピットで雨宿りをしている車がほとんどだ。

All teams experienced a 30 minutes delay in qualification prosess due to heavy rain. We finally started at 19:30 but most cars were back in their garages just after 10 minutes, waiting for the weather to clear up.
Some GT cars with a closed cockpit are on the track despite the heavy rain but they aren’t taking chances and are keeping a safe speed. Being the only car with a closed cockpit in the LMP class, the Peugeots are also among the group.
Spectators are moving in and out of the stands because of unpredictable weather. Mechanics continue to make adjustments to the cars while drivers keep looking at the sky.
It may be a good thing for drivers because we are getting much needed rest. People have their eyes fixed on the screens, watching cars on the track and also checking the sky occasionally.
Our No.29 car slowly left the pit with Robin as the driver a moment ago.
I can see that he is taking it slow and being causious. Most of the cars are still parked in the garages.

こちらはあと１５分で予選２日目がスタートします。

天気が不安定で晴れたり曇ったり雨が突然振ったりでタイヤのセレクトが大変なのとコースの真反対では天気が全然違うということもあり、気を使います。

写真は昨日の午後、地元のテレビ局の取材を受けているところ。

街をあげてル・マン熱がだんだんに盛り上がって来ている。

仕上がりの遅かった車だけど、メカニックの懸命な作業でコースオープンの１９時に間に合いました。

しかし、時間不足は否めず、電気系統のトラブルに悩まされ、今日の目的の３人のドライバーのナイトクオリファイをすることができなかった。

途中で、豪雨にも見舞われ、コースコンディションは最悪となった。
第２セッションの２２時から、私がスタートして不調ながらもナイトクオリファイを終了した。

残る二人のドライバーをクオリファイしようとしたがまたも電気系統のトラブルに襲われ、今日は終了した。

明日の予選でもう一度トライだ。

It took a great deal to get the car running but with the help from our mechanics, we made it to the opening of tonight’s pre-qualification. However, we had some difficulties with the car’s electronics and we couldn’t get all 3 drivers qualified. We also experienced heavy rain during the pre-qualification which made the things worse. I managed to get qualified on the 2nd session which started in 10PM despite all the difficulties. We ended the night while trying to qualify 2 other drivers. But spirits are high. We are going to give tomorrow’s pre-qualification all we have and I am looking forward to it.
